I recently had to clean out childhood bedroom at my parents home and I had to rescue these from certain destruction.

Back when toys were made of Die-Cast Metal back in the early 80's this was by far the coolest Christmas present I ever received or would ever receive. Made by Bandai in 1981, but released through Matchbox I believe, the weight of this thing is so substantial even holding it now at 34 it's heavy!! Trying to imagine what it was like flying this thing around my parents living room at 7 or 8 years old I thought it weighed as much as the real thing.

Sorry kids, but we did have cooler toys than you :) Nothing usurps a 10lb, 12inch, Die-Cast metal Voltron!!!

Amen... I loved that die-cast Voltron when I was a kid although one of his wings broke and then my world was destroyed...

Cool pic. Had one of these too as a kid. Loved this toy. Unfortuntely dont have the original 80's one anymore. But back in '96 or '97 it was reissued. But without the shooting missiles on the lions. Bought that one and have it to this day. Still in the box. Was going to take pictures of it but Im afraid of taking out of the box and accidentally breaking it when transforming it.

voltron was the shit, but didn't he always have episodes of "using weapons we only see when he fights" scenario?

Agreed. The most amazing Christmas I ever had was the year I got Voltron. I didn't expect to get it and somehow my parents pulled it off. I was ecstatic.

It was expensive. I think $80 or more. What a set though. I still have mine. It's a little rough, but still awesome!
